Christmas Day Road Trip

For Christmas day we went exploring. We drove up to see a waterfall and the light house point on our way to the North shore. It was a nice day, warm with occasional showers, and you know what they say, no rain, no rainbows. So we had rainbows.

Nature's decorations

I was walking through the yard last night wondering if I should put up some last minute decorations, some lights or something. Then as I looked around I saw that everywhere I looked was already decorated in the most amazing way, by nature.

It's my Birthday

Yes today is my birthday. Winter solstice, a great day to be born, the return of the light. I used to think I was being ripped off with the shortest day of the year, until I realized it was the best gift ever, the days are getting longer now. Birthday sunrise.

There was one tree with ornaments dedicated to a favorite Hawaiian food, Spam.

Kauai Christmas lights.

Christmas light show in the park. Very sweet, home made decorations with Hawaiian themes.

The Garden

Here are the garden boxes I built. Things are sprouting. And this is Bird. Bird comes and hangs out right next to me when ever I work out in the yard. He's probably hoping I'll kick up a bug or two for him to jump on and gobble up, that does happen, but I also think he just likes the talks we have.

I managed to get my first coconut opened today. I read on line about how to open a coconut, and then I did it my way. It was really easy as you can see.

John got a truck. He's pretty happy about it too. So am I, it will come in useful for the list that I'm making. We'll be hauling lumber and dirt and rocks and trees and all kinds of stuff. How fun. I don't think John was thinking about that list as he smiles for this picture. :-)

My car is here!  Jetty enjoyed her cruise, I have yet to take a cruise but my car has. Glad she made  it in fine shape. I took her right out for a new Aloha Rainbow license plate.

When getting ready to paint the wall, I removed the switch plate to find a stash of old gecko eggs. Many of them had hatched but quite a few were still whole. They felt like tiny ping pong balls. I like the geckos a lot.

Almost six years of waiting for this to happen, our move to Kauai, now we're here. The time that seemed like it would never pass, has, and  suddenly we're  here.  Maybe it's because I've already painted almost every square inch of this house, even though that was years ago and in only a month of being here, but it felt like home right away when we got here last week. Everything about it was sweetly familiar.
So I did repaint the bedroom first thing, best to do it before the stuff arrives. We find ourselves wondering what is actually coming anyway, and where are we going to put it? Seems like we don't really need anything. I did realize after I unpacked my suitcase that I only had about six shirts here with me because I used my clothes to wrap fragile items in the crate. It will be nice to get some more clothes.
Started planting seeds today. This year around garden is going to be so much fun.
Jetty my car arrived from her sea cruise today, we'll go get her tomorrow.
